Look to reward students with feathers for being mindful, responsible, respectful, and having integrity.
Please don't write on the feathers. They are recirculated after counting every Friday. Email House feather counts to Mrs. Sanchez. Integrate random questioning with 3x5 cards, popsicle sticks, or digitally. Establish Redirectional/Quiet Signal. Actively teach from bell to bell. Active supervision is a must. Please do not release students until 3:45 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 1:45 PM on Wednesday. Check your email at least twice a day and read the weekly BBEA News.
K-4th Students Restroom Sign-In/Out and Passes: Thank you to everyone who has your restroom sign-in/out sheet in a visible location for students, and thank you to those using restroom passes or passes to other areas on campus. If you are not currently using either system, please implement immediately.
5th-8th Students are allotted one restroom break prior to lunch and after lunch. Please call administration if there is an instance outside of these guidelines.
Dismissal: A quick reminder about dismissal procedures: Please make sure your students are lined up, calm, and using voices that are quiet enough to hear directions. Do not leave the building until your group is fully ready and remain with the students you are supervising until they have safely reached their final dismissal point and have all left that location. Please also ensure that no line is ever left unattended while students are moving through the building. Thank you for helping keep dismissal safe and organized.
Ashlock (K-5 Teachers): Continue to follow the Ashlock routines for the practice sets and priority plans.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Conferences are quickly approaching. Please start scheduling your conferences. If you need a translator, please coordinate with Ms. Skeen as well as share your conference schedule. Please have this completed by the end of the week (2/27).
Classroom Management Tip of the Week - Strategic teacher movement is one of the simplest ways to boost engagement and reduce off-task behavior. When you intentionally circulate, students know you are actively monitoring and supporting their learning. Proximity increases accountability, allows for immediate feedback, and keeps students academically engaged without interrupting instruction.
· Move continuously and unpredictably throughout the room. · Pause briefly near students who may need extra support. · Scan work as you walk to give quick, quiet feedback. · Position yourself in areas where off-task behavior typically starts. |
| BBEA Staff Spotlight: Nurse Catrina Grant
At Bernard Black Entrepreneurial Academy (BBEA), student success begins with safety, wellness, and care — and Nurse Catrina Grant serves as a cornerstone of that commitment every single day.
Nurse Grant is far more than our school nurse; she is a trusted caregiver, health educator, and compassionate advocate for every scholar who walks through our doors. With professionalism, warmth, and unwavering dedication, she ensures that students are healthy, safe, and ready to learn.
From managing daily health needs and administering care to supporting students with chronic medical conditions, Nurse Grant approaches her role with expertise and grace. Whether comforting a nervous student, responding to unexpected medical situations, or partnering with families to promote wellness, she consistently demonstrates the heart of servant leadership.
Her impact extends beyond the health office. Nurse Grant collaborates closely with teachers, administrators, and families to promote preventive care, healthy habits, and overall student well-being. She helps create an environment where students feel supported physically, emotionally, and socially reinforcing BBEA’s belief that whole-child development is essential to academic excellence.
In alignment with BBEA’s culture of Reset, Realign, and Restore, Nurse Grant provides a safe space where students can pause, recover, and return to learning stronger and more confident. Her calm presence and genuine care embody the spirit of community that defines our school. We proudly celebrate Nurse Catrina Grant for her dedication, compassion, and tireless service to the BBEA family.
Thank you, Nurse Grant, for keeping our scholars healthy, supported, and thriving every day! 💙🏫✨ BBEA "Where Wellness Meets Excellence". |

IXL School-wide Academic Initiative "Give Me 30" |
BBEA is participating in a school-wide academic initiative, “Give Me 30”, designed to strengthen student skills in Math and English Language Arts as we prepare for upcoming state testing. This principal-led, student-driven effort uses IXL Learning to promote consistent practice, academic growth, and mastery of essential standards. Students are encouraged to spend 30 minutes a day engaging with IXL learning to build confidence and sharpen the skills they need to succeed. We ask our parents and guardians to partner with us by:
Encouraging your child to use IXL Learning regularly at home. Celebrating their progress and growth. Reinforcing the importance of effort, persistence, and practice.
Together, when school and family work as one, we can accelerate learning and help every student reach their full potential. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work to ensure success for all BBEA students. All students have been provided with program login credentials. If you have any questions or experience any login issues, please contact BBEA’s Front Office for assistance. |
