How to Support Student Learning at Home

Students take STAR Reading and Math assessments during the year. These short assessments help teachers see what students know, track their progress, and support them in areas they need help.

STAR Math and Reading assessments also help prepare students for the Arizona Academic Standards Assessment (AASA) in the spring. Students in Grades 3–8 will take the grade-level AASA assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics.

AZELLA Testing in January

Play

Students who are identified as English learners on the Home Language Survey take the Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA) placement test. This test helps determine their English level and what support they need at school.

Students in an English language learner program take a yearly AZELLA reassessment until they reach English proficiency. Once a student scores proficient, they are monitored for two years to help ensure they continue to succeed.
